CARE PACKAGES FOR OUR TROOPS

Here in your own backyard, your friends and neighbors on Delmarva are supporting those deployed overseas through Operation We Care which collects, sorts, packs and sends care packages to our troops. The project continues with the support of many people, local businesses and civic organizations. The Delmarva community continues to step up and help whenever asked and we are fortunate to live in such a great community.

Items are collected from a half-dozen different local businesses sponsoring drop off locations on Delmarva. Anyone on Delmarva can stop by participating locations during businesses hours to drop off any items for a care package. Each donation helps and every little bit counts no matter how large or small! The care package items collected across Delmarva are driven to a central location in Salisbury where they are inspected and sorted into bins by type. After all the items are sorted the bins are hauled by trailer to the semiannual packing party event. Hand-picked volunteers gather for a very special day of filling several hundred care packages. Although items are collected year-round, there are only two packing party events per year: one in May to honor Armed Forces Day and one in November to honor Veteran's Day.

Do you need Financial Contributions?

Postage cost is our biggest challenge. Each care package costs $12.95 to ship. Last November we shipped 328 care packages and spent over $4000. In 2010 alone we spent over $7000 in postage. Thanks to the generous donations of many service organizations, local businesses and individuals we have been able to make this work. How did it start?

Operation We Care started in 2007 as a grassroots effort by the Eastern Shore Chapter Harley Owners Group to show support and appreciation for the brave men and women around the world protecting our freedom. We also support the families here at home that are dealing with life's challenges while their loved one is deployed. The project continues with the support of Harley-Davidson of Seaford and the Delmarva Harley Owners Group Chapter.
